To ease the transfer of big data in support of research at UC San Diego, Administrative Computing and Telecommunications (ACT) provides high-performance networking as a part of NGN3 (Next-Generation Network, phase 3).
Under NGN3, campus research buildings will be connected at 10Gb or higher. NGN3 also supports UC San Diego's Internet connections, which currently include 40Gb of bandwidth to the Internet, as well as high-bandwidth links to nearby institutions such as the Salk Institute and Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine.
Main campus/SIO researchers can obtain 10Gb connections directly to their offices, performance spaces or laboratories if needed for applications and data transfer. Health System buildings are also being upgraded to 10Gb as needs arise.
10Gb service to main campus and SIO buildings is covered under NGN. UC San Diego campus researchers requiring 10Gb or higher service to their labs or other locations in these buildings are partially subsidized.
Learn how to access high-speed networking services on main campus/SIO, and how to optimize your network connections, whatever their bandwidth, at our Network Cyberinfrastructure Blink page.
